In this blog, Paddy Worsfold, Operations Director at Archive Business Centre, explains how the business is helping to support and inspire the next generation.
Around 15 years ago, we began welcoming students into our workplace to support our time-critical afternoon operation. They helped unload collection and delivery vehicles and prepare cages and pallets for the night trunk.
Since then, more than 100 young people have passed through our doors.
Our first two students, Declan Booth and Cory Worsfold, followed very different paths. After completing his course, Cory decided his future was in transport. Fifteen years later, he is now our Night Operations Manager. Declan trained as a teacher and now teaches at my old high school, Leyland St Mary’s, something we are equally proud of.
We have remained committed to the programme because it is about far more than supporting our operation. It is about giving young people experience, confidence and a strong start.
We focus on the fundamentals: working hard, listening, being punctual, turning up consistently and understanding the importance of being part of a team.
Every young person who has worked with us has gone on to write their own success story. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than knowing we may have played a small part in shaping the next generation.
Our latest group is now approaching its next chapter, whether that means university or full-time employment.
One of them, Tom Berry, will leave us in September after more than two years with the business. Tom has been accepted into the London School of Economics, which is a fantastic achievement.
Reserved by nature, Tom lets his work ethic speak for him. He is dependable, conscientious and a tremendous grafter who has never been afraid of hard work. I recently spoke to his mum, Kellie, to tell her just how proud we are of him and everything he has achieved.
Moving to the big smoke would be daunting for anyone, but we are confident Tom will take it in his stride and make a real success of this next chapter.
